Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that displaces petroleum derived diesel fuel. When produced in a sustainable manner, biodiesel reduces the formation of climate-changing greenhouse gases. Biodiesel has the added benefit of increasing lubricity and significantly reducing the formation of particulate matter, a known respiratory irritant that is especially harmful to children and young adults.

Biodiesel is the fastest growing renewable fuel and can be used in the existing petroleum diesel infrastructure. Biodiesl is supported by the trucking industry and used in on-road vehicles, military vehicles, jets, school buses, marine vessels, in power generation and many other applications. Biodiesel can be used in all applications designed for petroleum diesel.

Worldwide countries like India, China, European Union, Brazil, Australia and many others have mandated the use of biodiesel both now and in the future. Recognizing the importance of biodiesel to US interests,Congress has passed a renewable fuels standard (RFS) which mandates the use of renewables in transportation fuels. Worldwide biodiesel production in 2008 has been estimated at over 400 million gallons.
